13 August 2007 | Finalists for the 13 categories for the 2007 Canterbury Sportsperson of the Year Awards have been announced
"The 17th year of the awards is shaping up to be the biggest so far. The number of nominations received across the 13 categories has exceeded any previous year, both in quality and breadth of sporting codes. As with the previous 16 years, this years' judging again highlighted the high standards of nominations and outstanding performances represented through Canterbury sporting codes," said John Campbell, chair of the awards judging panel.
The winners of each category and the overall winner will be announced at the 2007 Sir Richard Hadlee Sports Trust Canterbury Sportsperson of the Year Dinner in Christchurch on Friday 5th October 2007. Venue this year the Christchurch Convention Centre.
Over the past 16 years the Canterbury Sportsperson of the Year Dinner has become Canterbury's most prestigious gala black-tie event, attended by a capacity number of guests to honour Canterbury's pre-eminent sporting talent.
Proceeds from the event go towards the Sir Richard Hadlee Sports Trust, which assists young Canterbury sports people in hardship and need to participate in their sport.
